The Quranic Basis of Mirath
Allah says in the Quran: "Allah commands you regarding your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females." (Surah An-Nisa 4:11). Islamic inheritance law is one of the most precisely defined areas of fiqh, with fixed fractional shares (Faraid) assigned to each heir category.
Order of Priority (Simplified)
- Spouse — receives fixed share (1/4 or 1/8 for wife; 1/2 or 1/4 for husband)
- Children — sons get double the share of daughters (Asabat)
- Parents — each gets 1/6 if deceased has children
- Siblings — inherit only if no children or father
- Extended family — complex rules; consult scholar
