About Prayer Times Calculation
Islamic prayer times are calculated based on the position of the sun relative to the observer's location. Different scholarly bodies use slightly different angles for Fajr and Isha, which is why prayer times vary between methods.
The most widely used methods are ISNA (for North America), MWL (globally), and the Umm Al-Qura method (used officially in Saudi Arabia).
The Five Daily Prayers
- Fajr — Dawn prayer, before sunrise
- Dhuhr — Midday prayer, just after the sun passes its zenith
- Asr — Afternoon prayer (time varies by madhab)
- Maghrib — Sunset prayer, immediately after sunset
- Isha — Night prayer, after twilight disappears
