The Islamic (Hijri) Calendar
The Hijri calendar is a purely lunar calendar of 12 months in a year of 354 or 355 days. It began with the migration (Hijra) of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE. Each month begins with the sighting of the new crescent moon.
The Islamic calendar cycles through all seasons over approximately 33 years, which is why Ramadan, Eid, and Hajj fall at different times each Gregorian year.
